- The Tigers lost their fourth straight game at the Millsaps College
Classic on Saturday afternoon, falling in a 10-7 slugfest against Centre
College. Trinity (3-13) scored four runs in
the first inning to take a 4-1 lead, thanks in large part to a two-out
triple with the bases loaded by Karen Fisher, but Centre would not trail
for long.
Centre started the third inning with a solo homer
from Monica Vonderbrink, then added four more runs to take a 6-4 lead
that the team would not give up.
The Tigers answered the big inning with a run that
cut the lead to just one, but Centre got that run right back in the top
of the fourth. Centre then added three more runs in the sixth to
take full control of the game.
Michelle Gossein hit her third homer in the past
two days to score two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but Trinity
could muster no more against Centre.
With her fourth home run, Gossein tied Trinity's
single season record. She finished 2-3 with two runs and two RBI
in the game. Fisher was 1-3 with the three RBI for the Tigers.
Christina Carni and Jamie Williams collected three hits each in the
loss, and Carni added two runs scored.
Karen Fisher gave up six runs - five of which were
earned - through three innings, allowing eight hits and taking the loss.
Kate Wright had a hit and scored a run on offense, as well as holding
Centre hitless over the final two innings of the game.
Trinity will face hosting Millsaps College in
tomorrow's tournament action, followed by the tournament finale against
LaGrange later tomorrow afternoon. |
