| Colorado Springs,
Colorado
- Trinity followed up yesterday's record-setting performance in a
doubleheader sweep with two more wins to finish a Southern Collegiate
Athletic Conference weekend at Colorado College on Sunday afternoon.
Trinity (13-15, 8-0) remains atop the SCAC West
Division standings with the wins, which came by final scores of 13-1 and
20-12.
In game one, Trinity started quickly with six runs
in the first two innings, then answered Colorado College's only run -
that coming in the bottom of the second - with seven more runs in the
third and the fourth.
Jamie Williams kept her hitting streak alive with
hits in both games, and also extended her school-record in career
triples with two more today. She went 2-4 with one run and four
RBI in the opener, then was 2-2 with four runs scored in game two.
Williams and Michelle Gossein both had
record-setting performances yesterday, and Gossein collected four more
hits and four more RBI in today's doubleheader. Williams also tied
her own school record for triples in a season today, giving her six on
the year.
Today was Karen Fisher's turn to equal a school
single-game record, as she finished 4-5 with two runs and a record-tying
six RBI in the series finale on Sunday. Fisher is the fifth player
to record six or more RBI in one game, which includes teammate Christina
Carni's six-RBI game against Austin College in 2007. Additionally,
Fisher (3-5) took the win in game two, throwing a complete game for the
win. She gave up 12 runs on 12 hits, but only two of the runs were
earned, and she struck out three batters.
Kate Wright (7-0) threw her fourth straight
complete-game in conference play in the opening game, striking out three
and giving up just one run on seven hits through five innings.
Wright also went 3-4 with a career-high four runs scored in the game, as
well as tying her career-best mark with a pair of stolen bases.
She was also 3-4 in game two, scoring twice more and driving in three
runs. She had two doubles and a triple in the series finale.
Caitlin Richards scored twice in the opening game,
while Krista Prato Matthews was 2-2 with three runs and two RBI.
Teresa Greppi was 1-3 with two runs scored to start the day, then went
2-4 with two runs and two RBI in game two. Richards was 3-4 with
three runs and two RBI, while Prato Matthews went 3-4 with two runs and
three RBI. Lee Smith also collected three hits in the second game,
driving in two runs and scoring two more.
Trinity returns home next weekend to host Austin
College in another four-game SCAC series. The games will be the
final home games of the regular season for the Tigers. Trinity
needs one win to secure its spot in the SCAC Tournament, held April
25-27 in Danville, Kentucky. |
