Trinity Shut out by DePauw Saturday Morning

Ridgeland, Mississippi - Trinity's softball team opened up day two of the Millsaps College Classic with a 3-0 loss to fellow SCAC team DePauw University.

Trinity (3-12) and DePauw last met in the SCAC Tournament last season, which resulted in a 1-0 win by Trinity.  DePauw did earn an at-large bid to the NCAA Playoffs, though, and advanced to the Division III World Series last season.

Neither team scored in the first three innings, but DePauw was finally able to get on the board in the bottom of the fourth.  It would turn out to be the only inning that either team pushed across any runs, as DePauw finished with a three-run inning.  Ashlee Anton's solo homer would be all DePauw needed, but Emma Minx cracked a two-run double for insurance runs.

Helen Thompson had a solid outing from the circle for Trinity, giving up just one earned run - three runs overall - through six innings of work.  She struck out one batter and walked only one, yielding five hits, but still took the loss in the game.

Christina Carni and Jamie Williams collected two hits each for Trinity, while Lee Smith was 1-3 in the game.  Both teams managed just five hits each overall.

Trinity will face Centre College later this afternoon in continued action at the tournament.  The Tigers finish the tournament with two more games on Sunday.
