- The Tiger softball team salvaged a win in the final game of the
Millsaps College Classic, beating LaGrange College 3-1 on Sunday
afternoon. Trinity (4-14) had lost five
consecutive games prior to today's victory. The Tigers finished
with nine hits and just one error in the game, giving up one run on
seven hits to LaGrange.
Kate Wright improved to 2-0 win the win, giving up
no runs on seven hits through six innings, while Karen Fisher earned the
save with a perfect seventh inning.
Fisher also contributed in a big way offensively
in the victory, smashing her first career homer in the fourth inning.
The home run broke a scoreless tie, and gave Trinity a 2-0 lead that it
would not give up.
LaGrange broke through with a run in the fifth,
but the Tigers answered right back with another run in the bottom of the
inning.
Michelle Gossein was 2-2 with one RBI, while Lee
Smith was 2-3 with a run scored. Christina Carni was 2-4 with a
run scored as well. Jamie Williams and Teresa Greppi also finished
1-3 in the game.
Trinity will return home on Thursday afternoon to
open up a four-game SCAC series with Rhodes College. The opening
game will begin at 3:00 p.m. The series concludes with a
doubleheader that starts at noon on Saturday. |
