- Trinity finished the opening day of the Millsaps College Classic
with a 5-2 loss against Louisiana College on Friday evening.
Trinity (3-11) took the early lead with a run in the
first inning, but the Tigers could not hang on against nationally-ranked
Louisiana College.
Helen Thompson pitched three shutout innings to
start the game against the Wildcats, but two hits and an error in the
fourth led to three runs. Louisiana College would not give up the
lead the rest of the way. Thompson struck out three, but walked
five in the complete-game loss, giving up just six hits.
Michelle Gossein doubled home a run in the next
half-inning to make it a 3-2 game, but the Tigers left two runners in
scoring position in the inning. The Wildcats added two insurance
runs in the sixth to seal the win, as Erica Harwell hit a two-run homer
with two outs in the inning.
Jamie Williams went 3-4 in the game, scoring both
of Trinity's runs. Gossein was 2-3 with one RBI, and both Kate
Wright and Caitlin Richards finished 1-3 for the Tiger offense.
Trinity will face a pair of SCAC teams in
tomorrow's action, taking on DePauw and Centre. Both opponents are
in the SCAC East Division, so the games will not count in the SCAC
standings. |
