| Tyler, Texas
- Trinity's softball team earned its first victory of the young
season on Saturday afternoon, beating the University of Mary
Hardin-Baylor at the Easton Classic. Trinity
(1-2) opened the game's scoring with two runs in the first and never
relinquished the lead. After allowing an unearned run in the
bottom of the first, the Tigers then scored three more times in the
third to take control of the game.
Helen Thompson (1-2) pitched a complete game,
giving up two unearned runs on six hits, and striking out four batters.
Juniors Kate Wright and Jamie Williams finished
with two hits each, while senior Michelle Gossein also finished 2-4 in
the game. Williams had an RBI single in the first to turn the
game's leadoff walk into a run. Wright and Williams also had
doubles in the game, and Wright also stole a base for the Tigers.
First-year Sylver Monaco keyed a three-run third
with a two-run single that scored both Karen Fisher and Caitlin
Richards. Richards was 1-2 with one run and one RBI, as well as
drawing a pair of walks.
Trinity faces UT-Tyler later this afternoon to
continue the tournament. UT-Tyler is also serving as tournament
hosts for the two-day event. |
