- The Tiger softball team lost both ends of a home-opening
doubleheader on Saturday, as Mary Hardin-Baylor won 5-4 and 3-1 over
Trinity. Trinity (1-9) fell behind 2-0 after
two innings of game one, but came back with runs in the third and fifth
to tie the game. After UMHB snagged three runs in the sixth,
Trinity still refused to go quietly, scoring twice in the seventh.
The visitors hung on, though, taking the win in the opener.
In game two, it was Trinity that took the early
lead, scoring a run in the bottom of the first inning. Helen
Thompson threw four shutout innings before UMHB's offense came to life
for three runs in the fifth. That was all UMHB needed, though, as
the Tigers finished with just the one run on two hits in the game.
Christina Carni was 2-2 with a walk and a run
scored in the first game, and also reached base once in three trips in
game two. Jamie Williams finished the day 2-5 with one run and two
RBI combined, while Kate Wright scored a pair of runs in the opening
game.
Thompson (1-5) gave up three runs - two of which
were earned - on eight hits through seven innings of game two, while
Karen Fisher (0-4) allowed three runs on two hits through five
innings of the first game, giving up seven walks and striking out one
batter.
Trinity will face College of St. Scholastica in a
doubleheader next Thursday evening. The first game will begin at
5:00 p.m., followed by game two at approximately 7:00 p.m. |
