- The Tiger softball team won a pair of SCAC games over Rhodes
College on Friday afternoon, finishing off a four-game series sweep over
the past two days. Trinity (8-14) won 7-0 in
the opener behind Kate Wright's first career shutout - and in fact, it
was her first career complete game from the circle. In game two,
Trinity broke a 2-2 tie with a five-run inning that led to a 7-4 win and
a four-game series sweep.
The Tigers scored three runs in the first two
innings of the first game, then added runs in the fourth, fifth, and
sixth to complete the scoring.
Wright tossed a four-hit shutout in the game,
striking out three and giving up just two walks. She also finished
2-3 with two runs and one RBI at the plate.
Lee Smith, who won yesterday's game with an RBI
single in the bottom of the seventh, continued her hot streak with three
more hits in the first game.
Jamie Williams was 1-3 with two runs scored in the
opener, and was 1-3 in the second game as well to push her hitting
streak to 21 games. The season opener at Houston Baptist is the
only game this season in which Williams has not hit safely.
Wright and Karen Fisher both had a pair of hits in
the second game, scoring three runs and driving in two more combined.
Krista Prato Matthews also had a pair of RBI in the game - both coming
on a fourth-inning single that broke a 2-2 tie.
Trinity led 2-1 after one inning, but Rhodes tied
it in the top of the second. Jump-started by the two-run single by
Prato Matthews, the Tigers scored five runs in the fourth to take
control. Rhodes added two more runs in the sixth, but it was not
enough.
Helen Thompson improved to 3-9 on the season with
the complete-game victory, giving up four runs on nine hits and striking
out three batters.
Trinity will be back in action next Tuesday at
home against Texas Lutheran University, before traveling to Colorado
College on April 5th and 6th for a four-game SCAC series on the road. |
