| Danville, Kentucky-
Trinity's softball team, the SCAC West Division's top seed, was beaten
by Millsaps College at the SCAC Championships Tournament on Friday
evening. Trinity (19-18) struck first with
three unearned runs in the first inning, taking advantage of a two-out
error by the Majors. The Tigers then gave up three runs in the
third to tie the game.
After Millsaps loaded the bases with no outs in
the fifth, Trinity managed to escape with just one run allowed, though
the Tigers now trailed 4-3 in the game. Millsaps then scored a
pair of runs with two outs in the sixth to take a 6-3 lead, then added
two more scores in the seventh as even more insurance.
The Tigers were held to just four hits total in
the game, which included just two base-hits after the three-run first
inning for Trinity.
Kate Wright (12-1) took her first loss of the
season, giving up eight runs on 12 hits in the game. Jamie
Williams had Trinity's only extra-base hit of the contest, going 1-4
with her 33rd career double. That career total ties Williams for
the most in school history.
Senior Michelle Gossein was 1-2 with one run
scored, while Christina Carni and Lee Smith also added runs for the
Tiger offense.
In the only prior meeting this season, Millsaps
took an 8-0 win at the Millsaps College Classic. Millsaps, which
defeated Hendrix earlier in the day, will face DePauw tomorrow.
The Tigers will take on hosting Centre College in an elimination game
tomorrow afternoon, needing a win to stay alive in the tournament. |
