| Kerrville, Texas
- Trinity's softball team lost a pair of one-run games at Schreiner
University on Thursday, getting swept in the road doubleheader.
Trinity (1-7) lost the opener 5-4, then fell 9-8 in
the finale. The Tigers had leads of 2-0 and 4-2 in the first game,
but could not hang on in the late innings. Schreiner scored three
runs in the sixth and the seventh to earn the victory.
In game two, Trinity once again took a two-run
lead after the first, but a seven-run second by Schreiner put the home
team in control. The Tigers were able to chip away at the lead,
scoring three times in the third, then three times in the fifth and
sixth to take an 8-7 lead in the game. Schreiner answered with a
pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth, though, taking the win.
Michelle Gossein hit a homer with the bases loaded
in the third, but one of the runners missed third base and was called
out on appeal, costing Trinity an early run. Gossein finished 1-4
with four RBI in the game, and was 1-3 in the first game.
Caitlin Richards had a pair of hits in game one,
while Jamie Williams scored two of the team's four runs. Christina
Carni scored the other two runs for the Tigers in the opener.
Richards had another hit and an RBI in game two, while Carni was 2-4
with two more runs scored in the finale. Williams was 1-2 with one
run scored, drawing two walks.
Trinity will make its 2008 home debut against Mary
Hardin-Baylor on Saturday afternoon. The doubleheader will begin
