- Trinity's softball team opened up Sunday's action at the Easton
Classic with a 5-9 loss to the University of Texas-Dallas.
Trinity (1-4) led 1-0 after two innings, and 3-1
after four, but could not hang on for the win. UT-Dallas had six
straight hits to open up the fifth inning, leading to a five-run burst
that gave them a 6-3 advantage.
After the Tigers narrowed the gap with a run in
the bottom of the fifth, UT-Dallas added three more runs to take control
of the game. Trinity managed a run in the seventh for the final
score, and actually out-hit UT-Dallas 12-10 in the game.
Kate Wright finished 2-5 with two runs and two
RBI, and both of her hits were for extra bases. Wright hit a
fourth-inning leadoff double that sparked a two-run inning, then hit a
solo homer in the fifth. The four-bagger was the third of her
career.
Christina Carni led the team with three hits,
scoring once and driving in another run, and also collected a double in
the game. Lee Smith had back-to-back hits in the third and fourth
innings to finish 2-4 with one RBI.
