The Trinity University Tigers swimming and diving
teams have received high academic honors from the College Swim Coaches
Association of America (CSCAA).
Trinity’s men and women were honored as
CSCAA Academic All-American Swimming Teams in the “superior” category,
of a grade point average of 3.25 or better, based on a 4.0 scale.
The Tiger men were ranked 14th
nationally in the NCAA Division III category and the women were No. 68.
Individually, junior diver Ryan Cook of
Katy, Texas (Katy High School), was named an Academic All-American by
the CSCAA. Cook, a math and accounting major, earned All-America
honors – for the second straight year - last spring by finishing seventh
in the men’s 3-meter competition at the Division III championships. He
was runner-up in the 1-meter and 3-meter boards at the Southern
Collegiate Athletic Conference meet.
Senior swimmer Dan Petersen of Littleton,
Colo. (Littleton High School), and junior diver Lauren Walstad of Katy
(Katy High School) received men’s and women’s Honorable Mention Academic
All-America recognition, respectively. Petersen, a history major, was
the SCAC Male Swimmer of the Year. Walstad, who majors in business
administration with a marketing concentration, received the SCAC Female
Diver of the Year accolade after winning the 1-meter and 3-meter events.
Trinity’s women won their sixth SCAC team
championship and third in a row. And the Tiger men were runners-up.
