San Antonio –
The Trinity University Tigers women’s swimming and diving team is ranked
seventh in grade point average– in all divisions – by the Collegiate
Swim Coaches Association of American (CSCAA).
Trinity has
registered a 3.51 team GPA, based on a 4.0 scale. The Tigers are also
tied for fifth place in the NCAA Division III rankings. New York
University is the Division III leader, at 3.56. Rice University leads
Division I, and the nation, with a 3.62 mark.
The Tiger men have a
GPA of 3.15, and stand in a tie for 34th place in Division
III. Trinity’s head swimming coach is John Ryan, and the head
diving coach is Stan Randall.
Additionally, six
Tiger women and men have been named as CSCAA Scholar All-Americans.
Lindsay Martin of
Longview, Texas (Pine Tree); and Haley Emerick of Portland, Texas
(Gregory-Portland); qualified for the CSCAA Women’s Scholar All-America
Team. Martin, now a senior, and Emerick, a junior, each received diving
All-America honors in 2009.
Emerick finished
third on the NCAA Division III Championships 3-meter board (467.80) and
Martin was fifth (456.80). In the 1-meter event, Martin was third
(441.60) and Emerick placed sixth (414.70).
In the 2008 NCAAs,
held at Oxford, Ohio, Emerick was an Honorable Mention-America on the
1-meter and 3-meter board, finishing in ninth place.
Emerick
and Martin were responsible for the Tiger women finishing
at No. 16 as a team.
Trinity amassed 59 points in the team standings.
The Tiger women won
their sixth consecutive Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC)
team championship. Trinity won the meet with 865 points, outdistancing
runner-up Centre College, with 789. The Tigers have captured nine team
overall team titles.
Emerick was named
SCAC Female Diver of the Year, for the second straight time. She set
SCAC records in winning the 1-meter (489.95) and 3-meter (530.40)
boards.
Lindsay Weigley, a
swimmer from Clarksville, Md. (Mercersburg Academy, Pa.), became a CSCAA
Women’s Honorable Mention Scholar All-American. Weigley, who completed
her senior year, earned an NCAA provisional qualifying time in the
200-yard freestyle (1:55.99).
Andrew Battles of
Colleyville, Texas (Keller), was named a CSCAA Men’s Scholar
All-American. Battles, now a sophomore, placed 17th in the
NCAA 1,650-yard freestyle. He swam the event in 15 minutes, 57.63
seconds, and just missed earning Honorable Mention All-America honors by
three seconds. He established a SCAC record in the 1,650-yard freestyle
(15:56.95).
Swimmer Zach
Dielmann of Austin, Texas (Westwood); and diver Kevin Martin of Corpus
Christi, Texas (Ray); were selected as CSCAA Men’s Honorable Mention
Scholar All-Americans. Dielmann, now a sophomore, picked up an NCAA
provisional qualifying time of 51.07 seconds, with a fifth-place SCAC
finish in the 100-yard butterfly. Martin, a sophomore, was runner-up in
the SCAC 3-meter board (424.20) and placed third in the 1-meter
competition (435.70).
Trinity’s men
finished as SCAC runners-up, with a score of 769. |
