A note from Coach Ryan...
Greetings
to all the friends of Trinity Swimming & Diving!
As you no doubt know, earlier this month we trekked
all the way from San Antonio to Crawfordsville, Indiana, for the 2007
SCAC Championships. Despite ice, snow, cancelled flights, a couple
of missed warm-up sessions, a flat tire in the midst of Indianapolis
rush hour during a blizzard (it was a windy seven degrees when
the tire was finally changed), our teams stepped up and performed
wonderfully. Our divers were phenomenal and our swimmers were
awesome. We competed hard and, best of all, we had fun!!!
All in all, Trinity had 20 All-SCAC honors earned by
the women and 14 by the men by finishing top 3 in an event at the conference champs. Our women won their fourth consecutive team
title and our men again finished runner-up to DePauw. Maybe next
year for the men!!!
Speaking of next year, we have had some terrific prospective
student-athletes
visit campus and several have already decided to attend Trinity next
year. Others are planning visits
in March and April. We think we have a good shot at adding enough
talent and firepower to our line-up for us to be better in 2007-2008
than we've ever been. Time will tell and by early May we'll know a
lot about our true potential for the year to come.
Amanda, Stan and I hope you'll want to help make
Trinity Swimming and Diving the best program possible. Alums and
parents can help us in many ways. Coaches, please feel free to forward
this to your athletes. Prospects, we hope you choose to attend and be a part of
continuing the Tigers' success (and receive a superb education in the
process!).
Go Tigers!

Trinity University Alumna Profile

Name:
Ryan Van Der Kar
Year Graduated: 2004
Major:
Economics with a Minor in
Business
Current Occupation: Enrolled in Trinity's
Masters of
Healthcare Administration program
Best TU Swimming memory: "...Christmas
training trips because that was one of the ways the team developed
such strong friendships as well as winning conference 3 years out of
4. I'd say the most exciting was in 2001 where we won by 10
points and it came down to the last relay. That was the best
meet I've ever been to."
What was the best part of your time at TU?
"Swimming and the lifelong friends I gained as well as the
overall lifestyle. Also, between classes and practice Trinity
prepared me to prioritize and be proactive about completing
assignments." (As an aside, we would like to congratulate
Ryan on his recent engagement to TU 2006 graduate Catherine Jelf!)

What I like about TU: "The classes/professors. The
professors are totally awesome and the small class sizes make it super
easy to get to know them really well. I also love the swim
team!!!"
What I like most about Trinity Swimming: "I love the people on
the swim team! They are always making me laugh, which makes
practice that much better. I never expected that I would make as
strong of bonds as I have made with some of the team members, just in
the first year. It is also clear that the coaches really care
about how we swim and are constantly trying to help us improve our
strokes."
Overall: "If you want to get an amazing education, meet
great people you will never forget and be a part of a strong team,
come to Trinity. Go TIGERS!!!"
