San Antonio - Four
members of the Trinity University Tigers men’s and women’s track and
field teams will compete Thursday through Saturday at the NCAA Division
III Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the University of
Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
Junior Emily Loeffler of San Antonio
(O’Connor) will represent the Tigers in the women’s 3,000-meter
steeplechase. Loeffler clocked in at 10 minutes, 46.53 seconds –for a
Trinity record - at the North Central College meet at Naperville, Ill.
It will mark her third straight trip to the NCAA Championships. Last
year, Loeffler competed in the 1,500 meters and in 2006 she ran the
steeplechase. Loeffler was the 2007 Southern Collegiate Athletic
Conference (SCAC) Female Track and Field Athlete of the Year.
Junior Todd Wildman of Dallas (Jesuit)
will compete in the men’s 110-meter hurdles and the high jump. Wildman
won the 110-meter hurdles in a Trinity record time and NCAA qualifying
mark of 14.68 at the Abilene Christian University Twilight Open. He was
runner-up in the high jump in at the UTSA Relays in San Antonio, at 2.02
meters (6 feet, 7 inches).
Junior Chris Baer of Shiner, Texas
(Shiner), will be a first-time NCAA competitor in the men’s javelin.
Baer, also a standout running back on the Tiger football team, won the
javelin at the Angelo State meet at San Angelo, Texas, with a Trinity
record-breaking performance of 204 feet, 2 inches.
Freshman Zach Brush of Edmond, Okla.
(Edmond North), will carry the Trinity standard in the men’s 800 meters.
He is the only freshman runner – from any school – to compete in the
event. Brush qualified with a time of 1:51.97.
The Tiger men won their second straight
SCAC title (sixth overall) and the women took third place last month at
Greencastle, Ind. The Tiger women won the championship - for the seventh
time - in 2007. Both teams are coached by Jenny Breuer. |
