Pomona, California–
Trinity's track & field team enjoyed another successful meet last
weekend, highlighted by a couple of record-breaking performances by Zach
Brush and Chass Armstrong.
For breaking his own record in
the 1,500 meters, Armstrong was also named the SCAC Track Athlete of the
Week. Brush also broke his own record, running an 800 meter time
that is second in all of Division III.
The following is a first-person
account by Tiger junior Todd Wildman, who narrowly missed qualifying for
indoor nationals this past winter season. Wildman competes in the
hurdles and the high jump, primarily.
"The Pomona-Pitzer Track and
Field Invite is definitely one of my favorite meets of all time. The
combination of ideal racing weather, solid competition, world class
athletes, and an audience full of track enthusiasts creates the perfect
scenario to run fast times.
This year, my goal was to
qualify for the NCAA Championships in the 1500 meter race. At Pomona, I
ran 3:54 which is now the number 3 in the nation. The qualifying wasn't
finished there. Teammates Zach Brush and Emily
Loeffler also hit provisional times at the race. Brush ran a 1:51 in the
800 meter dash to put him at number two in the nation, and Emily
Loeffler posted yet another qualifying time in the steeple-chase!
Along with this there were three
other teammates who had huge personal bests. James Wooley ran 16:38 in
the 5k which was a 23-second PR, Al Hoing and Caitlin Masse also had
huge PRs, running 18:36 and 18:41, respectively. Jeremy Daum managed to
run his second-fastest steeplechase ever and Bryant Wright ran a season
best 1:59 in the 800. As a reward for our efforts, we were treated with
a trip to Venice Beach the following day to enjoy the beautiful weather
and the fruits of our labor. I can't wait until next spring to make the
trip back!" |
