2008 Coaching Staff

Head Coach Jenny Breuer

Jenny Breuer is in her eighth season as the head coach for men's and women's track & field.  She is also the men's and women's head coach for cross country.

Trinity’s women have captured four of the last five SCAC Track and Field Championships. Coach Breuer was named the 2007 SCAC Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Coach of the Year. She became the first coach in the SCAC era to be named Women’s Coach of the Year four times. The Tiger men also won the 2007 conference meet, getting the top prize for the second time. Coach Breuer earned her SCAC Men’s Coach of the Year honors, marking her second time to receive the recognition.

Coach Breuer was named the 2007 South Region Women’s Coach of the Year – for the second consecutive time – by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Four athletes, under coach Breuer’s tutelage, have been named SCAC Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Athletes of the Year. A number have gone on to the NCAA Championships.

A major highlight of coach Breuer’s career is Christyn Schumann, who won four NCAA Women’s High Jump Championships. Schumann captured the 2004, 2005 and 2006 Outdoor Championships and the 2005 Indoor title.

Coach Breuer is also the head coach of Tiger men’s and women’s cross country. The Tiger women qualified for the NCAA national meet for the third time in four years, in 2007. Trinity placed No. 21 at nationals, its best-ever finish. History was earlier made as junior Emily Loeffler became the first Trinity female to win the SCAC Championship. Loeffler was also named SCAC Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Year. Junior D’Ann Arthur was the first Tiger runner to win the women’s regional championship and was named South/Southeast Region Runner of the Year. Caitlin Masse was voted the SCAC Freshman of the Year.

Coach Breuer, who attended Belmont Abbey College in Charlotte, N. C., was an All-American cross-country performer and a two-time Academic All-American. She was later a graduate assistant coach at the University of Tennessee before becoming the head men’s and women’s cross-country and track coach at Division III Hanover (Ind.) College. Coach Breuer was an assistant coach at the University of Texas at San Antonio, and ran track and cross country at Brandon High School in Tampa, Fla.

She continues to compete in San Antonio-area races.

Assistant Coach Brantley Lutz

Brantley Lutz is in his third season as the Tigers’ track and field and cross country assistant coach.

He joined the Trinity staff in February 2006 after coaching at Albuquerque (N.M.) Academy for five years.  During his seven seasons as an assistant coach, the teams won two state titles and were runner-up three times.  In the fall of 2005, he was promoted to head girls cross country coach, and under his direction, the team won its first state title in 12 years as they placed five runners in the top seven at the state meet.  Coach Lutz earned District and State Coach of the Year honors in his first season as a head coach.  As an assistant with the track team, he coached two girls to multiple individual titles.  During the five track seasons, he coached the distance runners to 13 school records.  Eight of his former athletes have gone on to be a part of collegiate cross country teams.

Coach Lutz graduated from Michigan State University in 1998 with a bachelor’s degree in engineering mechanics.  During his collegiate athletic career, he earned five varsity letters and competed at the 1995 NCAA Cross Country Championships as a member of the Spartan team.  Since becoming a coach in 2001, he has earned coaching certification in USATF Level 1 and Level 2 in endurance events.

Coach Lutz is still a competitive runner, as he has qualified and competed in the last two U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials, finishing 30th in 2004.  He is a member of the PowerBar Team Elite and has a marathon personal record  of 2 hours, 20 minutes, 55 seconds. In 2005, he finished fifth U.S. Marathon Championships, which was his fourth top 10 finish in a national championship race.

Lutz serves as a coach of the distance runners on the Tigers men’s and women’s track team and in the fall as the assistant cross country coach.

Assistant Coach Emily Urban

Emily Urban is in her second year coaching with the Tiger track & field teams.

Urban coaches sprints and hurdles for the team, two areas that she excelled at as a student-athlete at Trinity.  She won All-SCAC honors in the 100 and 200 meters, the 100 and 400 meter hurdles, and both the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams.  In 2003, she was key to the school record-setting 4x400 relay team that qualified for nationals.  She also set Trinity 100 and 400 meter hurdle records during her career.

Following graduation from Trinity in 2003, Urban went to graduate school at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.  In 2004, she earned her master's degree, and then went on to work with the NCAA.

She joined the Tiger coaching staff last year, helping the teams win both the men's and women's SCAC Championships.

Assistant Coach Jerheme Urban

Jerheme Urban returns for his second year as a Trinity assistant in the track & field program, coaching horizontal jumps and javelin.

Urban was a two-sport standout at Trinity, playing both football and track in his career.  He was a team captain on the 2002 football team that advanced to the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl and was a three-time All-SCAC performer and an All-America selection in 2002.  He broke or tied school records for total touchdowns, receiving touchdowns, and kickoff return yardage.

During his spring semesters, Urban was even more impressive as a member of the track & field team.  He won an unprecedented four straight SCAC Male Athlete of the Year awards (2000-03), and competed in countless events for the Tigers.  Urban qualified for nationals in seven different events over the years, and still holds numerous school records.

Following graduation, Urban signed as a free agent for the National Football League's Seattle Seahawks.  In addition to playing for Seattle, he has also spent time with the Dallas Cowboys and the Arizona Cardinals.  Last season with the Cardinals, Urban caught 22 passes for 329 yards and a pair of touchdowns.  `

Urban earned his bachelor's degree from Trinity in 2003.

Assistant Coach Christyn Schumann

Christyn Schumann rejoins the Tiger track & field program in 2008, and will coach the high jump and the hurdles this season.

In addition to her national accolades, Schumann is a four-time All-SCAC performer in the high jump, as well as earning All-SCAC honors in the 100 meter hurdles.  She won the 100 meter hurdles at the 2005 SCAC Championship.

During her senior year, Schumann was a finalist for the NCAA Woman of the Year award, and was also the recipient of the NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarship.  She has used that scholarship towards her master's degree at the University of Texas.
