Sewanee, Tennessee - The
Trinity women's track & field team secured its third SCAC Championship
in the past four years on Saturday, while the men's team finished second
for the second consecutive season.
Trinity's women won 11 individual
SCAC titles overall, while the men's team won five individual events.
Stephanie Hankins was named the
2006 SCAC Female Athlete of the Year, earning that honor for the third
time in four seasons. Hankins missed out on last year's meet due
to an injury, keeping her from having the chance to win the year four
straight years.
Hankins won the 100 meter
hurdles, long jump, and triple jump competitions; also finishing second
in the 400 hurdles and seventh in the javelin, as well as being a part
of Trinity's winning relay teams.
With her jump of 37-05.25 in the
triple jump, Hankins qualified provisionally for the NCAA Championships.
The mark also broke the SCAC record and school record in the event.
On the men's side, Zach Byars
became Trinity's first SCAC Male Athlete of the Year since Jerheme Urban
won the award four straight years from 2000-03. Though Byars
didn't win any individual events, he had a very solid meet overall,
finishing in the top five in five different events. He was second
in both the 400 hurdles, high jump, and triple, jump; finished third in
the javelin, and fourth in the 100 hurdles.
RESULTS
Amy Stoy won both the 200 and 400
meter races, as well as finishing second in the 100. Stoy's times
in the 200 and 400 were her best of the season, and the time of 59.04 in
the 400 was the second-best in school history. Her 25.61 in the
200 broke the school record - a record set in the 1996 season.
Emily Loeffler won the 1500 meter
run, finished fourth in both the 800 and 5K races - running her best
time of 2006 in the 800. Jennifer Burn finished fourth in the 3000 meter steeplechase - with a
season-best time of 11:55.19. Holly Frindell also had her best
time of the year in the steeplechase, finishing fifth - right behind
Burn. Kate Dawson was fourth in the 100 meter dash and won the 400
hurdles, posting season-best times in both.
Christyn Schumann, the two-time
defending NCAA champion, won her fourth straight SCAC high jump title,
as well as finishing third in the 100 hurdles and 10th in the long jump.
Schumann also anchored the SCAC Championship 4x100 relay.
Hankins, Stoy, and Dawson joined
Schumann for the 4x100 relay, while Hankins, Story, Dawson, and Adrienne
Lichliter won the 4x400 meter relay for the Tigers.
Julie Lowstetter's win in the
pole vault was her third straight win in the event, and the Tigers had
four of the top five performances - including Sada Goodwin's third place
finish after learning the event just two short weeks ago.
Anthony Hicks took the title in
the 100 meter dash, while Joe MacRini finished fifth in the 200.
MacRini's time of 50.02 in the 400 meter dash was his best of the 2006
season. Matt Kovacs took the 800 meter run title, as well as
earning an eighth place finish in the 400 hurdles. Josh Aldana won
the 110 hurdles event, and finished seventh in the 400 hurdles.
Zach Byars jumped 6-04.00 in the
high jump for second place, tying his best jump of the season.
Adam Crouch took the title in the pole vault yesterday, and finished
fourth in the javelin. Casey Pikla earned All-SCAC honors in the
pole vault, finishing third overall. John Brumby finished fourth
in the discus with his second best mark of the season, also finishing in
the top 15 in both the shot put and the javelin. Adam Hicks
finished ninth in the discus with his best distance of the season.
In the 4x100 relay, Hicks, Tyler
