San Antonio - Trinity
Head Coach Julie Jenkins has been named the AVCA South Region Coach of
the Year after leading the team to the conference title and a 15th
straight trip to the NCAA postseason in 2006.
Julie Jenkins took her 2006 Trinity
University team from unranked in the preseason CSTV/AVCA Division III
Top 25 Coaches Poll all the way to a top five rating heading into their
15th consecutive NCAA Division III Tournament.
Despite losing a returning AVCA
All-American to injury early in the season, Trinity won its ninth
consecutive Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) championship,
including winning five out of six matches against other SCAC teams
ranked in the Top 25.
Rated first in all three NCAA South
Regional Rankings this year, the Tigers won a total of seven matches
against teams currently positioned in the CSTV/AVCA Top 25.
Now in her twenty-second year as Trinity
head coach, Jenkins earned career victory number 600 on October 27, and
has now amassed a career record of 607-284, which puts her in the top 10
among active Division III coaches in career wins.
The Tigers will host the NCAA
South Region Championship, beginning tomorrow. Trinity has earned
a first round bye, and will play its first match on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
The Tigers face the winner between Southwestern and Averett. Emory
has also received a bye, and will play either Austin College or
Hardin-Simmons. |
