Trinity to Host NCAA South Region Championships

 

San Antonio - Trinity's volleyball team wrapped up the 2006 regular season with a 3-0 win over DePauw University on Sunday morning at Oglethorpe University.

Trinity University will be the host site this week for NCAA Division III regional volleyball and men’s soccer tournaments.

The Tiger volleyball team will compete in the NCAA South Regional, with matches taking place Thursday through Saturday in Sams Gym.

Thursday’s opening round-pairings of the six-team regional have Austin College (33-7) playing Hardin-Simmons (19-14) at 4:30 p.m. and Southwestern (29-8) taking on Averett (Va.) (29-6) at 7 p.m. Trinity (32-6) has a first-round bye and will play the Southwestern/Averett winner Friday at 7 p.m.

Emory (27-10), which also was given a bye, opens the Friday matches by meeting the Austin College/Hardin-Simmons winner at 4:30 p.m. The regional championship match is slated for Saturday at 7 p.m.

The regional winner advances to the national quarterfinals Nov. 16 at Salem, Va. The Final Four will also be played in Salem, on Nov. 17 and 18.

Sixty teams are vying for the NCAA Championship.

Trinity, led by head coach Julie Jenkins, is currently ranked No. 7 nationally and is participating in its 15th consecutive NCAA tournament.
