Three Players and Coach Jenkins Earn South Region Honors

 

San Antonio - Three Tiger volleyball players and Coach Julie Jenkins earned AVCA South Region honors for their performances this season.

Trinity is 34-2 this season, finishing 15-0 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.  The Tigers won the SCAC for the 10th consecutive time this season, and the are also 29-0 against Division III teams this season. 

Coach Jenkins was named the South Region Coach of the Year for the second straight season, leading the team to its 10th 30-win season of the past 11 years and finishing undefeated in conference play - despite facing four teams that were ranked in the AVCA top 25.  She also led the team to its 200th SCAC victory during the year.

Seniors Sara Buros and Leslie Schornack both earned All-South Region honors, as did junior Caroline Keener.  Buros is on the All-REgion team for the third time, also earning AVCA All-America honors last year.  She led the team in kills, finished second in service aces, and was third in blocks.  Schornack tallied a team-best 129 blocks, and was third in kills.  She was also second on the team in hitting percentage.  Keener finished with 985 assists to lead the Tigers, and led the team with a .360 hitting percentage. 

Trinity will face Southwestern in the Regional Semifinals tomorrow afternoon in Sherman, Texas.  The winner will advance to the South Region Championship on Saturday night at Austin College.
