San
Antonio - Southwestern University recorded the first sweep of the
NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Trinity Regional, defeating the
University of Texas-Dallas 3-0 on Thursday evening.
Southwestern (35-4) won 25-17, 25-20, and 25-23 in the three-set match,
advancing to tomorrow's regional semifinals. UT-Dallas (24-8) is
eliminated from the postseason.
Christina
Nicholls led the Pirates with a double-double, recording 32 assists and
11 digs. Samantha Lingamfelter finished with a team-high 12 digs,
while Audra Gentry added 10 digs and nine kills in the match. Lauren
Brown hit a blistering .526 in the three sets, tallying 11 total kills
in 19 attempts (one error). Lindsay Thomson led all players with
five blocks.
Patricia
Allen and Jessica Nassau finished with 10 kills each to lead the Comets.
Niki Calverley had 32 assists and 10 digs to record the only
double-double of the match for UT-Dallas, also leading the team with
five blocks. Krissy Seaman and Amber Wetz recorded 14 digs each to
lead the Comets.
Southwestern will play the winner of tonight's third match between
Webster University and hosting Trinity University. That semifinal
will be the second of the day, and is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start. |
