San
Antonio - Second seed Trinity University closed out the first day of
action at the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Trinity Regional
Championship with a 3-0 win over Webster University on Thursday night.
Trinity
(31-9) won 25-15, 25-12, and 25-18 to complete the matchups for the
second day of action - the regional semifinal matches. Those will
take place tomorrow at 4:30 and 7:00 p.m. at Trinity University's Sams
Gymnasium.
The Tigers
hit .444 as a team, thanks to a pair of solid efforts from the two
setters. Caroline Keener, senior team captain, and Caiti Troyer
combined for 32 assists and 14 digs in the match. Keener led the
way with 19 assists and both players had seven digs.
Aly
Hazelwood scored eight kills and seven blocks to lead Trinity in both
categories, while Ginger Haley and Alexis Edwards tallied seven kills
each. Megan Guest and Amt Mittelstaedt both lead the team with 10
digs and two aces each.
Webster
was led by six kills each from Jackie Schall and Erin Grobe. Grobe
also led the Gorloks with eight digs, while the duo also led the team
with two blocks. Abby Williams had 13 assists, while Ashley Scanio
contributed seven. Mary Jo Schweitzer had three service aces for
Webster.
Trinity
will take on SCAC rival Southwestern in tomorrow's second semifinal at
7:00 p.m. The Tigers beat Southwestern 3-0 earlier this season, as
well as winning last year's meeting in the NCAA Playoffs 3-2. In
Friday's first semifinal, top seed Emory University will take on
Colorado College. |
