The fifth-ranked Trinity
volleyball team opened up SCAC play with three wins last weekend, losing
only to Birmingham-Southern College during the two-day tournament at
Austin College. The three wins include a sweep of nationally-ranked
Southwestern. The Tigers are tied for the lead in the SCAC standings as
a result.
Alexis Edwards finished with a
double-double in three of the four matches, while Aly Hazelwood tallied
24 total blocks for an average of 1.85 blocks/game over the weekend.
Caroline Keener totaled 131 assists and Megan Guest recorded six service
aces.
Megan Dudley and Amy
Mittelstaedt both passed 600 career kills over the weekend, moving into
the top 20 in school history. Guest moved quite a bit closer to 1,000
career digs, finishing with 48 this past weekend to give her 986 in her
career. Her six aces also move her into the top 10 for a career in that
category.
Hazelwood’s block total for last
weekend put her into a tie with current assistant coach Micaeli Smith
with 267 in a career.
Since the 1997 season, Trinity
is 7-6 against Emory University. The two South Region powers have met
six times in the postseason since the 1996 season, with each team
winning three matches. Emory won the last meeting 3-1 in the 2007
playoffs. Trinity’s last win came in the 2006 postseason – a 3-1
victory in San Antonio. |
