Sixth-ranked Trinity’s two-day
weekend tournament, the Trinity River City Classic, was cancelled due to
concerns about Hurricane Ike; but the two nearby Texas teams were still
able to get together for a single match on Thursday night.
Trinity defeated Texas Lutheran
University 3-1 on Thursday, and the Tigers have now won five of their
last six matches. Trinity is also now 4-1 against Division III teams
this season, losing only to fourth-ranked La Verne.
Alexis Edwards led the team with
15 kills, six aces, and 24 digs in the match, having only recently
worked her way into the starting lineup. Megan Guest also had 23 digs
for the Tigers, while Amy Mittelstaedt finished with 10 kills and 12
digs for her second consecutive double-double.
Up next for Trinity will be the
SCAC West-Central Tournament at Austin College. The Tigers will face
Birmingham-Southern, Hendrix, Rhodes, and Southwestern during the
two-day event. Trinity does not return home until October 8 against
Concordia (TX) University.
Last season, Trinity was 7-0
against this weekend’s four opponents. The Tigers defeated Southwestern
three times during the year, including a 3-2 win in the NCAA Playoffs.
Megan Guest is 62 digs away from
reaching 1,000 digs in her career. She would be the 18th player in
school history to reach that milestone. With three more service aces,
Guest can also move into Trinity’s top 10 for a career. |
