Danville, Kentucky -
In a battle between two teams ranked in the top 20 nationally, No. 5
Trinity came out ahead of 18th-ranked Southwestern by a final of 3-1 on
Sunday afternoon.
Trinity (16-1, 8-0) won 30-25,
23-30, 30-21, and 30-20 in the matchup of ranked teams - the first
meeting of the season between the two Texas schools.
The highlights of the match
included a near record-setting performance from middle blocker Leslie
Schornack. Schornack led the team with 13 blocks in the match,
which ranks second all-time for a single match. The record of 14
blocks was set in 2005 by Lauren Jackson.
All-American Sara Buros
recorded 17 kills to lead Trinity, while Caroline Keener averaged better
than 13 assists/game. Keener finished with 55 assists in the four
games.
Joni Jacobi, who recorded 30
digs in a match earlier this weekend, nearly equaled that total against
Southwestern, finishing with a team-best 29 digs. Aly Hazelwood
led the team with three service aces.
Trinity will be off next week,
but will return to action at home on October 3 against Texas Lutheran
University. The Tigers have won 13 consecutive matches. |
