Tigers Top Birmingham-Southern Saturday

 

Memphis, Tennessee - Trinity's volleyball team continued its winning streak by defeating Birmingham-Southern College 3-1 on Saturday evening at Rhodes College.

Trinity (19-1, 9-0) has won 16 consecutive matches, dating back to the opening weekend of the season.  The Tigers lost the first game 26-30, but rebounded to win 30-26, 30-26, and 30-24 over the next three games.

Micaeli Smith, a 2005 AVCA All-American, hammered out 17 kills to lead the Tigers, and Caroline Keener continued her impressive play with 46 assists in four games.

Sara Buros, a 2006 AVCA All-American, led the team with four service aces, while Joni Jacobi recorded a team-high 18 digs. 

Aly Hazelwood led the team in blocks for the second time in as many chances this weekend, tallying five more in today's match.

Trinity will face Millsaps and Southwestern to conclude the tournament tomorrow.  The Tigers, ranked fifth in the nation, will return home next weekend to host the SCAC East-West Tournament on October 12 and 13.  Prior to that, on Thursday, October 11, Trinity will host Whittier (CA) College at 6:00 p.m.
