Trinity Falls to Emory in Top Five Matchup

 

Atlanta, Georgia - In a matchup between two of the top teams in the nation, the Tiger volleyball team lost a 3-1 decision to Emory University on Friday evening.

Trinity (9-5) won the opening game 25-19, but then lost 25-23, 25-19, and 25-23 in the next three.  The Tigers, ranked fifth nationally, have now been beaten in each of the last two meetings against Emory, ranked second in Division III.

Amy Mittelstaedt led five different Trinity players with at least eight kills, totaling 14 kills to go with five digs and three blocks.

Ginger Haley had eight kills in just 14 attempts, hitting .429 for the match (committing two errors).  She also led the team with six blocks.  Aly Hazelwood finished with eight kills and four blocks.

Megan Dudley and Alexis Edwards led the way with 15 digs, while Caroline Keener and Megan Dudley contributed 14 digs each.  Keener also had a team-best 37 assists. 

Mittelstaedt, Keener, Dudley, Hazelwood, and Guest all had service aces as well.

Trinity will compete against Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference teams on Saturday and Sunday at Oglethorpe University.  The Tigers do not return home until a single match against Concordia (TX) University on October 8 at 6:00 p.m.
