Trinity's volleyball team rallied from two games down to defeat
Southwestern University 3-2 in the semifinals of the South Region
Championships on Friday afternoon.
Trinity (35-2) faced a
two-game deficit for the second straight match, and for the second
straight time, the Tigers were up to the challenge of needing three
straight victories.
Trinity lost 26-30 and 24-30
to open the match, then won 30-23, 30-20, and 15-10 to advance to
Saturday's South Region Championship match against Emory, who beat
hosting Austin College 3-0 Friday night.
Megan Dudley and Sara Buros
each tallied more than 20 kills in the match, with the previous season
high for the team being 19 kills. Dudley finished with a
match-high 26 kills and a .377 hitting percentage.
Buros had 22 kills and a .347
hitting percentage, also contributing six assists and 15 digs for a
double-double.
Caroline Keener tied her
career-high with 61 assists, also tying for the team lead with 23 digs.
Also with 23 digs was Joni Jacobi, while Megan Guest chipped in with a
solid 19 digs for the Tigers.
Katelyn Kershner recorded 18
digs, while Micaeli Smith added 11, and the Tiger team finished with 116
total digs in the match.
Jacobi and Aly Hazelwood led
the team with two service aces, while Hazelwood also paced the Tigers
with seven blocks. Leslie Schornack added 11 kills and a pair of
blocks.
Trinity and Emory will meet
for the sixth time in the postseason, with Trinity winning three times
and Emory winning twice. The Tigers won last year's matchup 3-1 in
San Antonio, Texas. |
