The Tiger volleyball team, ranked sixth in the AVCA Division III
preseason poll, opened the 2008 season with a 3-2 win over Southwest
Baptist University on Friday afternoon.
Trinity (1-0) dropped game
one, but battled back for a 13-25, 25-21, 25-13, 19-25, 20-18 win to
begin its part in the 2008 Alamo City Classic - co-hosted by the
University of Incarnate Word.
Megan Dudley led three players
with double-digit kills, tallying 20 in the season opener. She
also had 15 digs for a double-double. Amy Mittelstaedt also had a
double-double, finishing with 14 kills and 15 digs (and a solid .262
hitting percentage), while Aly Hazelwood chipped in with 10 kills.
All-American and 2008 team
captain Caroline Keener paced the Tigers with 48 assists, adding three
kills and 16 digs in the match.
Megan Guest led the team in
both service aces and digs for the match, averaging 5.6 digs/game.
She finished with 28 digs total and added three aces.
Hazelwood was joined by Tayler
Malloy for the team lead with four blocks, while Ginger Haley added
three for the Tigers.
Trinity will face Tarleton
State to finish off the first day of the tournament this evening.
The Tigers wrap up the opening weekend with a pair of tough matches
tomorrow in Sams Gym. |
