Sherman, Texas -
Trinity's volleyball team rallied from a two-game deficit to take an
exciting 3-2 SCAC Championship match victory over Austin College on
Saturday night.
Trinity (34-2) lost the first
two games 25-30 and 31-33, losing a lead in the second game that could
have brought the team back into contention.
The Tigers, who were down 0-2
for only the second time this season, responded with a convincing 30-19
victory to keep the match alive. The team carried that momentum
into game four, holding off a late Austin College rally to win 30-26.
Trinity then led 14-11 in the
fifth, but the homestanding 'Roos made one last rally to tie the game at
14-14. The Tigers were now under pressure, but still held on
against three match points before finally pulling off the 17-15 victory.
Tournament MVP Sara Buros led
the Tigers with 19 kills and 14 digs, while Caroline Keener tied her
season-high with 58 assists. Ironically, that previous high was
set against Austin College earlier this year.
Megan Guest had 16 digs to
lead the team in the title match, as well as recording two service aces.
Aly Hazelwood finished with six blocks to lead Trinity, while Leslie
Schornack recorded five.
Schornack and Keener were both
also named to the All-Tournament Team for their performances this
weekend.
Trinity has now won 10
consecutive SCAC Championships, and will earn the league's automatic bid
to the postseason. Selections are made on Sunday, but brackets and
full announcements are released on Monday. |
