The Tiger volleyball team found itself in a two-game hole to start
Saturday's final match at the Puget Sound Invitational, but still
managed to pull off a 3-2 win over the University of Redlands.
Trinity (5-3) lost 24-26 and
13-25 in the opening games, but stormed back with 25-13 and 25-14 wins
in the next two games. The Tigers wrapped up the come-from-behind
victory with a 15-12 win in the finale.
Amy Mittelstaedt and Caroline
Keener both had double-doubles to lead the Tigers to victory on
Saturday. Mittelstaedt finished with a team-best 17 kills and a
.340 hitting percentage, as well as recording 11 digs and five blocks
defensively. Keener had 45 assists and 15 digs, also adding four
kills and a pair of blocks.
Megan Dudley finished with
eight kills in this match, and was named to the All-Tournament team for
her collective effort this weekend. Also on the All-Tournament
team was Ginger Haley, who finished with 11 kills and four blocks in
today's match against Redlands.
Megan Guest had two aces and
23 digs to lead the team in both categories, while Alexis Edwards added
a solid 16 digs for the Tigers. Aly Hazelwood finished with a
team-high six blocks as well.
Trinity returns home next
weekend for the Trinity University River City Classic. The two-day
tournament will feature matches against Texas Lutheran, Carthage,
Linfield, and St. Thomas. Carthage and Linfield were both ranked
in the top 10 in the preseason, as were the sixth-ranked Tigers. |
