The Tigers finished 2-2 last week, but
earned the SCAC weekend sweep by beating both Millsaps and Hendrix on
Friday and Saturday nights.
Krista Prato Matthews is now just 36 points
from cracking the top five in career scoring at Trinity, passing Jill
Harenberg (1974-78). Her 39-point showing against Hendrix on
Saturday was the fourth-highest single game effort in school history.
She also needs just five more blocks to become just the second player in
SCAC history to reach 200 in a career.
Danielle Hubenak is 13th in single season
history with 25 three-pointers so far this season, giving her a shot at
the school record of 44. That record was set by Amy Howe in
2004-05, then tied by both Genevieve Hurlbutt and Tierney Hughes last
Prior to this past weekend, only two players
in Trinity history had recorded two games with 10 or more assists, but
with 11 assists against Hendrix, first-year Ali Marzella now joins that
list. Chalee Stofflet (1993) and Lauren Andrews (2005 and 2007)
are the other players to accomplish that feat.
The Tigers will hit the
road to take on Southwestern University next weekend in Georgetown,
Texas. Trinity swept the season series last year, but Southwestern
earned a series split with a home win in 2006-07.
Hubenak had 11 points, five rebounds, and
six assists in last year’s 80-52 win in San Antonio, while Prato
Matthews had 21 points and 14 rebounds – including nine offensive – in a
67-60 win in Georgetown.
Prato Matthews was named to the
D3hoops.com Team of the Week
for her outstanding play, which included a 20-rebound performance and a
39-point game against Hendrix.
