Trinity's women's basketball team was eliminated from the NCAA Playoffs
on Friday evening, losing 53-71 to Howard Payne University at Kimbrell
Arena (McMurry).
Trinity (20-8) trailed 27-38 at
the half, and was never able to overcome the first half deficit.
The Tigers shot less than 40% in the game, but also held Howard Payne
under 40% shooting. The biggest difference in the scoring came at
the foul line where HPU made 10 more free throws (29) than
Trinity attempted (19).
Howard Payne used a 12-2 run to
close out the first half with the double digit lead, and then the two
teams stayed pretty even for the first 10 minutes of the second half.
But with Trinity trailing by just 11 points (45-54), Howard Payne scored
16 unanswered points to put the game away for good.
Senior Jennifer Farrar scored 11
points and grabbed five boards in her final game as a Tiger player,
hitting 5-10 from the field and also adding four steals.
Krista Prato Matthews led the
Tigers with 15 points and 11 rebounds, connecting on 7-13 shots.
Jennifer Wieman added eight points and five boards, while Meghan Scholbe
finished with four points and six rebounds.
Leda McDaniel chipped in with
six points and five rebounds, while Kate Dawson led the team with four
assists.
Howard Payne's Meia Daniels led
all players with 34 points in the game, hitting 9-23 from the field and
13-18 from the foul line.
