Trinity Takes Revenge on Austin in Regular Season Finale

San Antonio - Trinity's women's basketball team avenged a loss from earlier this season with a 75-59 victory over Austin College in Sunday afternoon's regular season finale.

Trinity (17-7, 10-4) led 35-30 at the half, holding Austin to less than 35% shooting in the period.  The two teams played a close game most of the first half, but the Tigers pulled out to a six-point lead with just under five minutes left.  The Kangaroos managed to tie the game at 27-27 with 1:45 remaining, but Trinity hit a three on its final possession to take the halftime lead.

In the second half, Austin continued to stay close in the early going, but Trinity went on a 13-0 run to push a six-point lead to a commanding 19-point advantage with 7:14 to play, and the visitors would get no closer than 13 points the rest of the way.

Meghan Scholbe led all scorers with 18 points for the Tigers, hitting 7-11 from the field and also recording three steals.

Krista Prato Matthews was limited to just 15 minutes because of foul trouble, but still managed 12 points and a team-leading seven rebounds in the game.  Lauren Andrews added eight assists and three steals, while Alexandra Blake hit 4-6 from the field and 3-4 from the line to score a season-best 11 points.

Katy Williams led Austin College with 10 points and 11 rebounds, while Brittany Smith and Jacqueline Bauer each tied for the team lead with 10 points.

Austin committed 21 turnovers in the game and shot just 39.6% from the field, while Trinity had just nine turnovers and hit 46% from the floor.

Trinity will take on Rhodes College in the first round of the SCAC Championships Tournament next weekend in Memphis, Tennessee.  The Tigers enter the tournament as the No. 3 seed.
