The Tiger women's basketball team defeated hosting Colorado College
84-71 to wrap up its part at the Colorado College Challenge Tournament
on Sunday afternoon.
Trinity (6-2) led 39-33 at the
half, shooting better than 50% from the field in the opening 20 minutes.
Colorado College was held to just 33% shooting in the first period, and
despite rebounding to shoot 47% in the second, the home team was unable
to keep Trinity from its sixth straight win.
Beth Hannon led Trinity with a
career-high 16 points in the game, highlighted by making 4-5 from
three-point range. Hannon also had four rebounds and a pair of
assists in her 39 minutes of play.
Colorado College cut the lead
down to nine with 7:11 to play, then brought that deficit to just three
points with 4:23 to play (64-67). Trinity responded with a 17-7
run to close out the game and seal the victory.
Four other players scored in
double figures for Trinity, including Krista Prato Matthews. Prato
Matthews led the team with six rebounds and added 11 points in 17
minutes off the bench.
Meghan Scholbe hit 5-8 from the
field on her way to 13 points and five rebounds, and Tierney Hughes
scored 11 points in 23 minutes on 4-7 shooting.
Lauren Andrews scored 12 points
and grabbed five boards, as well as dishing out a team-best five assists
in the game. Andrews also had two steals and a pair of blocks for
the Tigers.
Colorado College's Paige Whitney
led all scorers with 20 points, while teammate Liz Schnaitter added 19
points and six boards.
Trinity returns home on December
28-29 for the Trinity Holiday Tournament. The Tigers open with
Manchester College on Thursday afternoon.
