Trinity's women's basketball team, ranked 22nd in Division III, lost a
67-84 decision to No. 7 Hardin-Simmons University on Saturday night.
Trinity (0-2) trailed 25-44 at
the half, and out-scored the Cowgirls 42-40 in the second period.
Hardin-Simmons shot 50.8% (32-63) from the field, but hit just 13-33
(39.4%) in the second half. The Tigers also held HSU to 3-15
three-point shooting. The Tigers shot 34.8% (23-66) from the
floor.
Seniors Beth Hannon and Kate
Dawson led the Tigers with 11 points each, combining to hit 7-12 field
goals and 9-11 free throws. Dawson added two assists and three
steals in 21 minutes off the bench, while Hannon finished with six
rebounds and a pair of assists.
Meghan Scholbe scored 10 points
and grabbed six boards to go with three steals in 29 minutes of action.
Jennifer Wieman and Tierney Hughes both finished with nine points, while
Carlee Culver and Leda McDaniel chipped in with six points each.
HSU's Melissa Contrucci led all
players with 20 points on 9-14 shooting, while Lyssa Denard had 16
points and seven rebounds.
Trinity will travel to Belton,
Texas on Tuesday to take on Mary Hardin-Baylor in a doubleheader with
the men's team. The Tigers open the home portion of the schedule
on Friday, December 1 in a conference doubleheader with Rhodes College.
