The Tiger women's basketball team opened the Trinity Holiday Tournament
with a 77-63 win over Manchester College on Thursday afternoon.
Trinity (7-2) led 34-23 at
halftime, trailing just once (2-3) in the opening period. The
Tigers opened up a 13-3 lead early in the game, and led by as many as 18
in the first half.
Manchester cut the lead down to
11 by the end of the first half, but would get no closer than that until
the final minutes when the team cut the Tiger lead to just 10 points.
Manchester made it an eight-point game in the final minute, but Trinity
hit its final seven free throws to keep the visitors at bay.
Krista Prato Matthews led all
players with a team season-high 17 rebounds in the game - also her
career-high total. Prato Matthews also had 11 points and three
blocks to lead the Tigers to victory.
Kate Dawson led Trinity with 15
points in the game, hitting 4-9 shots and 6-6 free throws in 23 minutes
off the bench.
Lauren Andrews added 12 points
to go with five assists and a team-high four steals, while Meghan
Scholbe finished with 10 points and six boards. Tierney Hughes led
Trinity with six assists, chipping in with nine points as well.
Manchester's Stacey Wendell led
all scorers with 19 points in the game, while teammate Sarah Bose added
13 points off the bench.
Trinity out-rebounded Manchester
49-38, which includes 15 offensive rebounds for the Tigers.
Trinity shot 40.3% from the field, while Manchester was held to 37.1%
shooting in the game.
The Tigers will take on UW-Eau
Claire in tomorrow's Championship game, while Manchester will face
Bethel in the Consolation game.
