Trinity's women's basketball team swept the opening weekend of Southern
Collegiate Athletic Conference play with a 90-51 win over Millsaps
College on Sunday afternoon.
Trinity (3-2, 2-0) led 46-27 at
the half, using a 20-3 run to take control of the game. After the
teams played close in the opening minutes, the Tigers went on a 7-0 run
to take a 23-14 lead. Following a Millsaps three-pointer, Trinity
then scored 13 unanswered points to make it 36-17 with just under four
minutes left in the first period.
After scoring in the first
minute of the second half, Trinity held a lead of at least 20 points for
the rest of the game.
Meghan Scholbe and Krista Prato
Matthews both scored 14 points to lead Trinity, and the pair also led
the way with seven rebounds. Interestingly enough, both players
hit 6-10 field goals as well. Scholbe added four steals and two
blocks, while Prato Matthews recorded a game-high six blocks.
Jennifer Wieman added 13 points
and six rebounds, hitting 5-10 shots and adding three assists.
Beth Hannon led the team with five assists, while Carlee Culver added
four in 15 minutes off the bench.
Marianne Smith led Millsaps with
15 points, while Leslie Frese finished with 11 points and nine rebounds.
LaReina Adams led all players with 12 points, whiel Crystal Dickerson
added 10.
Trinity shot 40.7% for the game,
holding Millsaps to just 25.8% shooting - including 20.6% (7-34) in the
second half.
Up next for the Tigers will be a
Tuesday night game at home against Texas Lutheran. The game will
begin at 7:00 p.m., and feature both a webcast and live stats.
