Jackson, Mississippi -
Trinity's women's basketball team proved to be too much for Millsaps
College in the second half, as the Tigers turned a close game into an
84-56 victory on Saturday night.
Trinity (14-6, 8-3) led 41-37 at
the half, as Millsaps hung tough for the first 20 minutes. The
Tigers used a 12-3 run early in the second half to take the lead up past
double figures, though, and controlled the game the rest of the way.
Trinity shot better than 50% in
both halves, while Millsaps - which hit 44.4% in the first period - was
held to just 28.6% (8-28) shooting during the final period.
Tierney Hughes led the Tigers
with an all-around standout performance on Saturday, collecting her
first double-double of the year. Hughes finished with 16 points
and 10 rebounds, and also recorded five steals and three assists in the
game. She hit 7-11 from the field in her 30 minutes of work.
Trinity's Kate Dawson finished
with 14 points in the game, while Martha King led the team with 11
rebounds. King also had nine points in 17 minutes off the bench.
Lauren Andrews and Meghan
Scholbe each added 11 points for Trinity, and while Scholbe had four
steals, Andrews had another top assist night for the Tigers.
Andrews handed out a team season-high eight assists in the game, giving
her 14 assists for the weekend.
LaReina Adams was the only
Millsaps scorer in double figures, leading the team with 12 points and
eight rebounds.
Trinity travels to Southwestern
University and the University of Dallas next weekend, concluding the
regular season road schedule. The Tigers wrap up the regular
season with a pair of SCAC home games against Hendrix and Austin the
following weekend.
