Memphis, Tennessee -
The Trinity women's basketball team completed a regular season series
sweep of Rhodes College with a 77-50 win on Friday night.
Trinity (13-6, 7-3) jumped out
to a 38-16 lead at halftime, allowing just six field goals and 19%
shooting in the first period. The Tigers hit nearly 50% in the
first half, then bested that with a 60% shooting second half, hitting
17-28 from the floor.
The Tigers opened the game with
a 17-5 run and never looked back. Rhodes cut the lead to eight
with a few minutes left in the first half, but the Lynx would get no
closer the rest of the game.
Krista Prato Matthews, chosen as
the SCAC Player of the Week last week, picked up where she left off by
posting 16 points and 12 rebounds to lead Trinity to the win.
Prato Matthews, who has earned a double-double in four straight games,
hit 8-15 from the field and also collected four blocks in just 21
minutes of play.
Kate Dawson and Meghan Scholbe
also scored in double figures for Trinity, scoring 12 and 11 points,
respectively. Dawson also had four rebounds and four assists,
while Scholbe collected six boards.
Lauren Andrews finished with
eight points and eight rebounds to go with her six assists, but it was
Beth Hannon's seven assists that led the Tigers.
Ashley Farrell led Rhodes with
12 points, while Jennifer Davis scored nine points in just eight minutes
off the bench.
Trinity will travel to Millsaps
College tomorrow to finish off the SCAC weekend of action. The
Tigers defeated the Majors earlier this season in San Antonio.
