Trinity's women's basketball team defeated Texas Lutheran University
89-50 on Tuesday night at Sams Gymnasium.
Trinity (4-2) led 38-15 at the
half, holding Texas Lutheran to just 6-32 (18.8%) shooting. The
Bulldogs did come out with a 50% shooting performance in the second
half, but the Tigers shot better than 42% in both periods.
Krista Prato Matthews led
Trinity with 18 points and 14 rebounds off the bench, knocking down 8-10
from the field. She also recorded two steals and two blocks in 22
minutes.
Meghan Scholbe, who came in as
the team's leading scorer and rebounder, nearly kept pace with Prato
Matthews - posting 12 points and 12 boards. Both players had six
offensive rebounds in the game. Scholbe hit 4-8 from the field and
4-4 from the foul line, and also recorded three steals and two blocks.
Tierney Hughes and Kate Dawson
chipped in with 10 points each, and both players also added two steals.
Lauren Andrews led the team with four assists, while Beth Hannon
finished with three.
Texas Lutheran's Jessica Macias
led all scorers with 24 points, hitting 11-18 from the field.
Macias also had three steals and hit 2-3 three-point shots.
Trinity will not play again the
rest of the week, returning to action at the Colorado College Classic on
December 16-17. The Tigers face University of Dubuque and hosting
Colorado College.
