Trinity's women's basketball team opened the Colorado College Challenge
with a 75-68 win over the University of Dubuque on Saturday afternoon.
Trinity (5-2) secured its fifth
straight win, despite trailing 33-38 at halftime and shooting just 32.9%
from the field for the game.
Meghan Scholbe led the team with
16 points, 16 rebounds, and six assists. She set new career highs
in rebounds and assists, and missed her career-high in points by just
three. Scholbe also tied for the team lead with four steals.
Krista Prato Matthews also had a
double-double for the Tigers, scoring 14 points and grabbing 12 boards.
Carlee Culver hit 5-10 from the field to score 13 points, while Lauren
Andrews and Beth Hannon both chipped in with 10 points. Andrews
added had nine rebounds and four assists in the game, as well as
recording four steals.
Dubuque's Jen Nichols led all
scorers with 18 points and Jenica Kester added 17 points, but the rest
of the team added just 33 for the team.
Dubuque did shoot 45.3% from the
field, but Trinity held a 49-32 edge in rebounds, and the Tigers also
forced 23 turnovers - 15 of those on steals.
Trinity will face hosting
Colorado College tomorrow afternoon. The team will return home
December 28-29 for the Trinity Holiday Tournament.
