Trinity's women's basketball team capped a road weekend with a 72-66
victory over the University of Dallas on Saturday night.
Trinity (15-7) opened the game
with a 22-9 run on its way to a 35-23 halftime advantage. Dallas
was able to cut the lead to just five points with 5:57 to play, but the
Tigers never let them get any closer - despite scoring just three points
over the final 4:37 of the game.
The Tigers held Dallas to just
31% shooting in the first half, but the Crusaders shot an impressive
57.7% in the second half. Trinity, however, shot even better than
that, hitting 60.9% from the floor.
Krista Prato Matthews scored her
sixth double-double in the last seven games with 15 points and 13
rebounds for the Tigers. Meghan Scholbe led the team with 19
points on 8-12 shooting, also collecting six boards and three steals.
Kate Dawson and Tierney Hughes
added 10 points each for Trinity, and Dawson handed out nine assists to
tie the team's season-high and her personal career high.
Kristy Malone led Dallas with 21
points to go with seven rebounds. Malone also added six assists
and five steals in her 39 minutes of action. Ana Castillo finished
with 13 points and 11 boards for a double-double, hitting 5-9 from the
field.
