San Antonio -
Trinity's women's basketball team wrapped up a weekend of Southern
Collegiate Athletic Conference action with an 80-52 win over Colorado
College on Sunday afternoon.
Trinity (6-1, 2-0 SCAC) scored
the first two buckets of the game to lead 4-0 early, but it was Colorado
College that took control of the game with just under 10 minutes left
until halftime.
Colorado College turned an 18-17
lead into a 24-17 lead with 8:35 to play. Unfortunately for the
visitors, it would be their final points of the first half.
Trinity closed the period with a
14-0 run to lead 31-24 at halftime. That lead was 10 points a few
minutes into the second half, and despite a comeback bid by Colorado
College, Trinity was in control the rest of the way.
Colorado College was down seven
with just under 15 minutes to play, but Trinity used a 17-2 run over the
next five minutes to clinch the victory.
Alexandra Blake came off the
bench with the best game of her career, totaling career bests with 20
points and 11 rebounds in just 21 minutes of play.
Meghan Scholbe finished with 14
points on 5-6 shooting, while both Tierney Hughes and Krista Prato
Matthews finished with 11 points. Megan D'Errico finished with
five points, six rebounds, and four steals for Trinity.
Melanie Auguste and Paige
Whitney had 15 points each for Colorado College. Auguste also led
the team with four assists, and four steals, and also grabbed eight
rebounds. Eliese Hansberry led Colorado College with nine boards
to go with her six points.
Trinity shot 59% in the second
half to pull away in this game, holding Colorado College to just 32.1%
shooting for the entire 40 minutes.
Trinity will not play again
until the end of December, hosting three teams in the Trinity University
Holiday Tournament.
