Trinity Defeated by 13th-Ranked DePauw Saturday

San Antonio - Trinity's women's basketball team was unable to hold onto a halftime lead against DePauw University on Saturday night, falling 51-68 to the defending NCAA Division III National Champions.

Trinity (13-5, 8-2) led 24-23 at the break, holding DePauw to just 25% shooting.  The visitors were able to keep pace with Trinity - which shot 45.5% in the first period - by grabbing 10 offensive rebounds in the opening 20 minutes of play.

Overall, DePauw pulled down 22 offensive rebounds in the game, giving them multiple second-chance opportunities in the game.

Trinity shot over 40% in the second half as well, but DePauw came out with a 14-29 (48.3%) shooting performance in the second half to put Trinity away.

Trinity led by as many as seven points (17-10) in the first half, but an 8-0 DePauw run put the visitors on top with 5:37 to play.  Neither team scored in the final two minutes of play, so Trinity's shot at 2:09 gave them the halftime advantage.

A DePauw three-pointer opened the second half scoring, which was followed shortly after by an 18-0 run that put DePauw in complete command with a 50-28 lead with just over nine minutes to play.  Trinity was able to cut into the lead with an 11-4 run to make it a 54-43 game with 4:13 left, but Trinity would get no closer than that the rest of the way.

Meghan Scholbe led Trinity with 15 points and nine rebounds, hitting 7-13 from the field and playing in 39 minutes of the game.  She also recorded a pair of steals and a block in the game.

Krista Prato Matthews hit 6-10 shots on her way to 12 points and seven rebounds, while Danielle Hubenak finished with nine points.  Tierney Hughes grabbed eight boards to go with a pair of assists for Trinity.

Cassie Pruzin led all scorers with 27 points - all of which came in the second half of play.  Pruzin was 0-6 from the field in the first half, but 8-11 in the second half.  Pruzin also dished out a game-best six assists and a team-best six rebounds.  Katie Matthews hit 6-9 shots off the bench to score 12 points, while Gretchen Haehl added 11 points to go with five assists and four steals.

Trinity will be on the road next Friday night at Southwestern.  The Tigers defeated Southwestern 80-52 at home earlier this season.  On Saturday, Trinity returns home to host the University of Dallas.
