Trinity Edged by George Fox Saturday

San Antonio - The Tiger women's basketball team lost for the first time this season, falling 53-55 to George Fox University in the Trinity Thanksgiving Classic on Saturday evening.

Trinity (3-1) was down 19-26 at the half, hitting just 6-24 (25%) from the field in the opening 20 minutes.  George Fox didn't shoot well in the first half overall, but did hit 5-12 (41.7%) from three-point range.  At one point, Trinity trailed by nine points in the period.

The Tigers fought back nicely in the second half, hitting over 45% from the field and putting themselves back in the game.  Trinity actually went ahead by six at one point, but George Fox was able to keep pace.  George Fox broke a 44-44 tie with a 7-2 run late in the game, holding a five-point advantage with just over three minutes to play.

With just 90 seconds left and trailing by four, Trinity was able to sandwich a pair of baskets around a steal defensively to tie the game with 24 seconds left.  George Fox called a timeout to set up a play, which turned out to be a jump shot for Katy Campbell with just five seconds left, breaking the 53-53 tie.

Trinity called timeout with just over three seconds remaining to set up a final play, but after the inbounds, the Tigers turned the ball over going to the rim at the buzzer.

Krista Prato Matthews led Trinity with 17 points and nine rebounds, while Meghan Scholbe had seven points and 10 boards.  Scholbe also had four steals, while Prato Matthews added a pair of blocks.

Genevieve Hurlbutt scored 11 points in 20 minutes off the bench, while Danielle Hubenak scored six points on 3-4 shooting for Trinity.

Campbell led George Fox with 11 points and a game-high 20 rebounds, while Tiffany Behary scored 16 points and seven assists.  Jaime Hubka was 4-8 shooting for 14 points in her 35 minutes of action.

Trinity will face the College of Notre Dame (MD) tomorrow afternoon to conclude the tournament.  George Fox squares off against Saint Mary's (IN) College, which beat Notre Dame in earlier action today.
