San Antonio -
The Tiger women's basketball team opened a Southern Collegiate Athletic
Conference weekend with a 76-52 win over Hendrix College on Friday
night.
Trinity (16-5, 10-2) led 38-31
at halftime, hitting nearly 44% from the field in the first period.
The Tigers held Hendrix to less than 30% shooting in the half, and to
30.3% for the entire game.
The Tigers led by as many as 12
points in the first half, but Hendrix was able to knock that lead down
to seven at the break, and then down to just one early in the second
period. Trinity responded with five straight points to go back up
by six, but Hendrix scored six unanswered to tie the game at 43-43 with
14:53 to play.
Hendrix was unable to gain the
lead, though, and Trinity came to life with a 16-0 run that effectively
sealed the win. Following that spurt, Hendrix could get no closer
than 13 points.
Krista Prato Matthews and Meghan
Scholbe both finished with double-doubles in the game. Scholbe
scored 16 points and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds to go with three
assists and four steals. Prato Matthews narrowly missed a
triple-double, collecting a team-best 18 points and 11 boards, and also
recording eight blocked shots. Prato Matthews hit 8-10 from the
field in the game.
Rachel Snyder followed her
career-high 22 points against Dallas last weekend with 17 points and
eight assists against Hendrix tonight.
Christina Byler led Hendrix with
a game-high 23 points, while Samantha Clark finished with 12 points and
10 rebounds for the visitors.
Trinity will finish off the SCAC
weekend by hosting Millsaps College at noon on Sunday. It will be
the final regular season home game of the season for the Tigers. |
