Tigers Down Rhodes to Open SCAC Weekend

 

San Antonio - Trinity's women's basketball team started quickly and never looked back in a 69-43 win over Rhodes College on Friday evening.

Trinity (11-2, 6-0) never trailed in the game, taking a 35-17 lead into halftime.  The Tigers held Rhodes to just five total field goals on 21 shots (23.8% shooting) in the first half.

Through the first 10 minutes, Trinity had opened up a 19-6 advantage, but Rhodes was able to trim that lead to eight late in the half.  With just under three minutes left, Trinity's lead was down to eight, but the Tigers mounted a 10-0 run to finish the half and take control of the game.

Krista Prato Matthews led Trinity with 21 points and 12 rebounds in the game, posting her sixth double-double of the season.  She had 18 points and eight rebounds in a very active first half.

Meghan Scholbe finished with 19 points and five rebounds, hitting 9-9 from the foul line.  Scholbe hit 5-8 from the field and scored 13 points just in the second half.

Danielle Hubenak chipped in with eight points in the game, also leading the team with four assists and grabbing eight rebounds.  Tierney Hughes had seven points to go with five rebounds and three assists.

Becca Clarin led Rhodes with 14 points in the game, while LaKeya McGill finished with eight points and three assists.

The Tigers shot just 32.7% from the field, but held Rhodes to 26.4% shooting for the game - including 3-20 (15%) from three-point range.

Trinity will face Birmingham-Southern College Sunday afternoon to close out the weekend.
