Trinity's women's basketball team scored an 80-61 win over the
University of the South-Sewanee in the opening round of the SCAC
Tournament on Friday night.
Trinity (20-5) led 41-31 at the
half, shooting 60% (18-30) from the field to start the game.
Sewanee was held under 33% shooting in both halves.
Krista Prato Matthews led
Trinity with 26 points on 11-15 shooting, collecting eight rebounds to
go with her four blocks. The four blocks gives Prato Matthews 171
in her career, breaking Trinity's career record of 169 that was held by
Bernadette Navjar and Tara Rohde.
Meghan Scholbe posted her ninth
double-double of the season, finishing with 14 points and a game-high 13
rebounds against Sewanee. Scholbe also dished out four assists,
recorded three blocks, and swiped two steals in the game.
Alexandra Blake scored 12 points
and led Trinity with five assists. She hit 5-8 from the field -
including both of her three-point tries - and pulled down nine boards.
Megan D'Errico matched her season-high with 12 points off the bench,
hitting 6-8 from the field in 19 minutes on the floor.
Anne Wills led Sewanee with 16
points in the game, while Steffi Renninger and Lauren Gulley chipped in
with 11 points each.
Trinity will face the winnner of
tonight's game between Hendrix and Oglethorpe at 7:00 p.m. tomorrow.
All of tomorrow's games will be played at Hendrix College. |
